Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday decided to hold a workshop on formation of new districts after receiving proposals from the districts in Hyderabad after June 2. Speaking at the Collectors’ meeting, he said that several proposals were coming on new districts and they should be examined scientifically, while observing that the district reorganisation was mooted keeping in view administrative convenience and facilities to the people.
He said districts in Telangana were big and there were a lot of benefits with small districts and according to Reorganisation Act the number of seats in the Assembly should be 153. There were proposals to reorganise the State into 24 to 25 districts and the government was thinking on how to take up the exercise in the districts along with Hyderabad. The Chief Minister wanted the Collectors to send proposals on creation of new districts.
He said there were four to five constituencies in each district and 20 mandals on an average. He said even the mandals should be reorganised. Villages near to a mandal headquarter should be merged in that mandal. He wanted creation of new urban mandals, appointing one RDO for two Assembly constituencies, reorganisation of revenue divisions and creation of new revenue divisions. The Chief Minister told the Collectors not to consider the reports appearing in newspapers about the new districts, and said that the exercise was going on through a committee headed by the Chief Secretary.
He asked the Collectors to closely examine the formation of new districts for making proposals and for preparation of maps. He said, “Let us take a decision after the workshop. New districts should be created on the basis of convenience to the people not on the demands of political leaders.” He said Rs 100 crore would be given to each district for construction of government offices, new Collectorates, and police offices. New districts should come into existence by Dasara,” he said.
The Chief Minister wanted appointment of more RDOs since new revenue divisions were coming up. He sought proposals on new posts along with vacant ones. The Chief Minister also wanted free admissions without any limits those orphans who passed SSC into residential junior colleges. He wanted speedy disposal of cases pending in the revenue courts. He said tenders for the 2BHK scheme should be called locally, local people should be given priority to entrust construction works, and sand should be provided free of cost to 2BHKs.
Directing the Collectors to make elaborate arrangements for the Krishna Pushkarams, he said officials should plan strategically since the course of the river was not long in the State. He asked the officials to give priority to construction of Pushkar Ghats, parking places, approach roads and others. Divers and swimmers should be kept ready and arrangements at Jogulamba Temple should be made, he said.
