THE Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has tasked NITI Aayog with monitoring big ticket projects launched by the NDA government to ensure timely and transparent implementation. In a recent communication to the central ministries, the NITI Aayog asked that a senior official be designated for coordination on timely completion of ‘Nation building schemes’.
“In the last two years, this government has launched a number of welfare and infrastructure projects. Some sectors have shown significant progress but there are certain areas where it is lagging behind. With the centralised monitoring mechanism, the delay and reasons for it could be addressed timely,” a senior government official said.
A source said that the government’s ambitious programme for ‘Soil health Card’ to farmers did not achieve targets set for the year. Till February-March 2016, the project could collect only 69 lakh samples against the target of 1 crore for 2015-16.
The other scheme the government is focusing on is the ‘Pradhanmantri krishi Sinchai Yojna’ touted as a game-changer for the agriculture sector. Another programme which will come under monitoring is ‘Namami Gange’.
